Pet Friendly Resorts Quebec – Are you looking for the perfect place to relax with your child during the Christmas holidays? Christmas in Quebec is the perfect dog-friendly destination if you love the cold, the snow and the whole Christmas atmosphere. It’s about a nine-hour drive from New York to Quebec, Canada, and one of the best trips we’ve ever taken!
Despite the long journey, this holiday trip was worth it! You see, Quebec turns into a Christmas town during the holiday season, just like a Charles Dickens novel; Christmas Here’s where to stay, what to do and where to eat with your child.

We are staying at the dog-friendly Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. This hotel is located high and overlooks the St. Lawrence and it looks like a castle in the sky. A five-star luxury hotel, it is the most photographed hotel in the world! The hotel allows up to two pets of any size for a fee of $50 CDA per night.

The interior of the hotel was fully decked out for the holidays, and the hallways were decorated with beautifully decorated Christmas trees. It didn’t take us long to check in, and we were pleasantly surprised that Gatsby waited patiently with us in line even after a long drive. The hotel staff made sure Gatsby was well taken care of. He doesn’t eat croquettes, so we asked the hotel to prepare fried fish and meat for him. The staff even asked Gatsby if his salmon was cooked at the right temperature!
The best thing about Fairmont Le Château Frontenac is that they offer dog sitting services! We hired a babysitter when Danny and I went out to dinner and when we went dog sledding. They charged $26 per hour (CAD) with a 3 hour minimum for someone sitting in our room to watch Gatsby. You can tell the waiter to stay in the room or ask him to take your dog for a walk and play in the hotel’s snowy park.
We strolled with Gatsby on the Dufferin Terrace, the terrace surrounding the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. This elevated location offers panoramic views of Old Quebec and St. Lawrence Here is a giant slide where people line up at the top of the slide (270 feet long) to go down the slide with a slide that goes up to speeds of 60 mph! Gatsby sits back and enjoys watching people go down the slide!
The German Christmas market is open from November 22nd to December 23rd and we managed to catch the last day of the holiday market. We wandered the market and found unique handmade items made in Quebec and foods such as Nuremberg gingerbread, German Christmas cakes and other German foods such as bratwurst, pretzels, wine and more.

The next place we visited was the QuartierPetit Champlain district. This place is so Instagram worthy. The narrow cobbled streets here are filled with holiday lights and decorations. I loved visiting the shops, and some of them even let Gatsby join me.
Place Royale is a few steps away from the Petit Champlain square and there we visited Notre-Dame-des-Victoires, the oldest Catholic church in North America.
Go to Place des Canotiers, a garden square along the river St. Lawrence Gatsby played in the snow here, and we walked along the river admiring the great sheets of ice.
Unfortunately we were unable to eat at any of the restaurants in this area as there was no outside seating. Restaurants have outdoor seating during the warmer months here, and many people eat outside with their dogs. The only place that offered outdoor seating was Pub des Borgiain Winter. Even though it was cold, we still stood outside because Gatsby was not allowed in the bar. I had a glass of wine and Danny enjoyed a warm bowl of French onion soup.

At the hotel, Danny ordered a romantic dinner at Le Sam Bistro & Bar Atrium. This restaurant offers a beautiful view overlooking St. Lawrence we ordered maple syrup duck wings and Atlantic salmon tartare as an appetizer. For the main course I had fried chicken sticks and Danny grilled lamb chops. Of course, we drank a lot of wine and ended up sharing a dark chocolate lava cake.
We arranged for a pet sitter to watch Gatsby while Danny and I go dog sledding on the Expedition Mi Loup! From the hotel we had to go to Saint-Jean-de-l’Île-d’Orléans, which is about 20 minutes away. If you have not traveled here, the hotel can arrange transportation for you. I’ve been wanting to try dog sledding for a long time! When we arrived, you could feel the energy of these dogs as they were full of excitement and enthusiasm!
The meeting started with a safety briefing and riding techniques, then we went into the forest! I sat in the sled while Danny was behind me directing the sled. The events lasted about an hour, and there was a 15-minute period of hanging out with the puppies. This experience was everything I wanted, and I felt grateful to have met these wonderful dogs. If you plan to try, I highly recommend coming prepared with ski jackets and pants. He was wearing warm leggings, which were definitely not enough to keep his legs warm.
Celebrating Christmas in Quebec was a great holiday getaway. We enjoyed our stay at the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac and loved the fresh and festive atmosphere of the city. I have no doubt that Gatsby felt the same way. Cold temperatures, snow, ice, grilled salmon and meat from the utility room cooked to the perfect temperature, an entertaining waiter and a comfortable king size bed. What more could a husky ask for? I’m sure this will be Gatsby’s favorite dog shelter for a long time!
