We offer a limited number of pet-friendly rooms in our main lodge (eight to be exact), so if you plan to bring your dog, you must call us to reserve your room. When you check in with your pup, we’ll provide you with a soft dog bed and blanket, Trapp Family Lodge dog bowls, Trapp Family Lodge dog bowls, and a map of dog-friendly areas on our property where you and your offspring may roam. . and play.
Follow VT 100 north of Stowe 3.2 miles to Randolph Road. Turn right and continue for 0.5 miles. Turn right onto Moss Glen Falls Road and continue 0.5 miles to a small parking lot.
It is a very short but scenic hike to an amazing waterfall. Although the road is not well marked, the route is clear. Follow the stream up to the waterfall. Be careful when blasting, as loose debris on the trail can be slippery and dangerous. Inexperienced hikers should stay on the left side, above the waterfall. The road connects to a large snow trail, so be careful not to go back the wrong way.
From the Trapp Family Lodge, take Route 100 north to Triq Moska. Turn right onto Moscow Road and then onto Cottonbrook Road. Follow it for about two miles to the Cotton Brook entrance to Mansfield State Forest. The car park is on the right. The road starts from the red door. The circuit passes a number of former farms and sawmills and offers views of Bolton Reservoir and the mountain ranges. (If you come across a chicken, have fun, but keep a safe distance.)

From Trapp Family Lodge, take Trapp Hill to Luce Hill Road. Go down Luce Hill and turn left. From there, it’s about nine miles to the Long Trail parking lot at the top of Notch Road. Parking is on the left and right. The road is on the right. The route to the pond follows the Sterling Pond Trail. You can go around the pond by following the Elephant Head Trail, but be careful to return to the Sterling Pond Trail to get back to the trailhead.
A more challenging loop can be made by hiking Long Base from under Route 108 and returning via the Sterling Pond Trail and then climbing Route 108. There are great views from Sterling Pond (at an elevation of 3,000 feet). See the Long Paths Guide for more information.
From Trapp Family Lodge, take Trapp Hill Rd to Luce Hill Road. Take Luce Hill Road to Vt. 108. Turn right on Vt. 108. Turn left onto Vt-100 N (0.1 mi). Take the third right onto School Road and bear slightly right onto Stow Hollow Road. Turn slightly left to continue onto Stow Hallow Road. Continue along Upper Hallow Road and park in a small car park. The Stowe Pinnacle Trail is relatively short but steep, with an open, bald summit from which you can see the Green Mountains to the west, including Camel’s Camels, Bolton Range, Nebraska Notch, Mount Mansfield, Sterling Range, and Worcester Range. You will see Hogback Mountain to the southeast, which you can reach via the Hogback Trail.
Pick up from Trapp Family Lodge, Trapp Hill Rd. to Luce Hill Rd. Go down Luce Hill Rd and turn left. After about a mile, turn right onto Edson Hill Rd. Turn right onto Edson Hill and pass the Stowehof Inn entrance. Take the other road on your right and park in the car park.* Please note that this article was written before the Covid-19 pandemic.
