My dog Cotopaxi is B.A.R.K. Consider the same if you decide to take the world’s best companions on ranger trails and hikes.

It’s a few hours east of Maine and the perfect landing spot to start our hiking adventure in Atlantic Canada at the end of the Appalachian Trail. We found a great dog friendly Airbnb here and the hot tub was perfect after months of hitchhiking in a van.

Sussex is great for hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter. The city is decorated with artistic murals, so if you want, tour the required area. The falafel place is a great local place to eat (the owners are super sweet!) The Bluffs Trail is our favorite hike here. We loved this town and our Airbnb so much that we stayed here again for another night on our way back to Maine!

The highest water in the world, internationally famous cuisine (scallops) and a very dog-friendly national park make Fundi a great stop.

Camping in the national park is easy, clean and affordable. The park has many trails for hiking and mountain biking. My favorite trails in the park are Mathews Head and Deacon Falls. Both are suitable for dogs. There are also many campsites. We stayed at Camp Signecto.

The nearby town of Alma and nearby Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park are where the wave action happens! We wandered Alma’s beaches twice at low tide. The city has many excellent restaurants, all of which are dog-friendly. Hopewell Rocks is worth the admission and two visits. (Your combination can give a high tide one day and a low tide the next.) It’s amazing to see in person!

We split our time on PEI between three different destinations over nine days. This allowed us to explore almost half of the island. Another week on the west side of the island will give you time to see a little more of this beautiful place.

We stayed at Cavendish Camp in the National Park. Then the edge of the country and one of my favorite campsites I’ve ever stayed at, Campbell’s Cove. Finally Ocean Acres in the quaint town of Murray Harbour. We enjoy staying in all these places. Ocean Acres has a restaurant.

It’s a place where I can spend some time. (Or a lifetime.) My heart longs to be back here. My choice for the number one place for dogs on PEI. I kayaked solo in the Atlantic Ocean (I rented a kayak from a wonderful group at East Coast Paddle Adventures.) In addition to national park beaches, there are many dog-friendly beaches to protect native nesting birds. Inside I also kayaked in Murray Harbor and capsized for the first time in my kayaking career! (I might add another two feet of water ;)!) We hiked everywhere with our dog and he ate bones in restaurant yards.

This small island in Nova Scotia was our stop for three nights between PEI and Cape Breton. We stayed at this wonderful Airbnb on the ocean. At low tide we can walk directly to the beach. At a nearby provincial park, I saw a bald eagle dragging poo on the beach as it flew by. The nearby town of Pictou has a sweet family and story in the Syrian-Canadian restaurant Aladdin. And the food is delicious and, you guessed it, their deck on board is dog friendly! The options for dogs in Atlantic Canada start to seem endless.

It was the highlight of the trip in a way. It is a place visited by people from all over the world. It’s beautiful, but Atlantic Canada is so beautiful that it’s hard to put one place above the others. We spent a week on Cape Breton Island and its national park. Including Jill G’s first Canadian camping experience for the first time! (He was nervous, but got better after a few laps around the camp.)

The first few nights we stayed at Setticamp and went horseback riding around the park / island. Stop in the middle before heading back to New Brunswick and back to the other side of Ingonish. Cheticamp has camping hikes, nearby Last Chance Sandwich, and our favorite gallery and cafe Freia and Thor! (Transplants in Bellingham, Washington are very nice and fun to meet.)

The Skyline Trail is world famous and the only hiking trail on our entire Atlantic Canada trip that is not dog friendly. However, Cotopaxi is tired of all the other routes he could have taken. This park feels like visiting one of America’s best national parks. It’s huge and feels like you’ve stepped onto another planet. This was my first high altitude hike since completing the Appalachian Trail in Maine a few weeks ago.

It looks like everything is fine for your dog to arrive. In addition to the coyote concerns in Cape Breton National Park, predators are also at risk. Not only are the trails “allowed” for your dog to hike, they are good hiking terrain. All the restaurants have patios and more uncrowded ocean/beach than I’ve had in North America.

I believe the winters in Atlantic Canada are harsh. (Everyone tells me.) But when you have HBH’s softest sweatshirt, you’ll be comfortable! And storms have been a concern lately. We actually left Cape Breton on our way to the island. But there are weather problems everywhere. I have never been to this part of the country and I am so grateful for our time together. You can split this trip up or visit Nova Scotia, the western tip of PEI, or the great wilderness of New Brunswick and Newfoundland. Summer and early autumn are the best times to visit with good weather.

From campsites to holiday apartments and beach houses, here are my favorite places to stay in South East KLD for Great Danes. Living in Brisbane during the Covid restrictions and border closures has given us the opportunity to travel a lot on local time. And local travel means our Great Dane pickles are always included in our travel plans. My role

I’m Saša, mother of a Great Dane and owner of the company Arctic Mist. A few years ago I wouldn’t have gone more than a few months without taking an international vacation. But times have changed and in recent years we have been doing a lot of local time travel with our Great Dane pickles, mostly around SE KLD. Sadly, Pickles passed away last year. But we recently welcomed a Great Dane puppy, Pumpkin, into our family. He follows in Pickle’s footsteps and goes on many adventures with us.

So I thought I’d share some of my favorite places to stay in SE KLD for dogs, including things to do and links to accommodation.

But before we continue, if you’ve never traveled with your dog before and don’t know where to start, check out my blog
