St. Barrier Island George is divided into three parts. St. George Island State Park protects nine miles east. In the center there is a public beach, residential areas, restaurants, shops and other business places. West End is a gated apartment community with its own unique style and the most expensive homes on the Gulf of Mexico.
Our first stop was a state park, and we found that the campground and trails were pet-friendly, but the beach was not. Still, it’s good to have some variety, and our dogs really enjoyed the 2.5-mile Gap Point trail through the pine forest. (Parking is at the campground and a trail heads to the left of the stadium.)
