Dog Friendly Vacation Spots In Texas
If you’re looking for a hotel close to Austin but want to feel like you’re in a small town, look no further than Hotel Ruby. Just 20 minutes from downtown Austin is the beautiful Ruby Hotel in Round Rock, Texas. From the moment we entered the lobby, we were impressed by the interesting artwork on the walls and the elegant style of the place. Hotel Ruby has a rich history and beautiful scenery. After visiting Ruby’s site in early 2016, the owners found an interesting love letter for “Dearest Ruby” in the leaves and trash. The buildings there used to be the house, now the Ruby Bar, and some stalls. The letter was pocketed and, along with some torn pages from the book that were later found, eventually became the inspiration for the hotel. From the first visit to the site it was clear that this location near Brushy Creek was very popular.
Plus) Great Resorts For Getaways With Your Pets
You’ll find guest rooms at The Ruby Hotel carefully designed with beautiful colors and soft textures. In rooms overlooking the lake or river, you’ll find relaxation as you gaze out every window. Rooms are equipped with Nespresso machines so you can wake up at your own pace and enjoy a nice cup of coffee or espresso in bed – which is exactly what we did. The beds are very comfortable, which is great for hotels because trust me…I’ve been in some duds. But it’s not the same – it’s really hard to get out of bed because they’re so cute.
1000% yes! So when you own a dog, slowly discover the difference between a hotel that allows dogs and a dog-friendly hotel. Hotel Ruby is dog friendly. Their dog-friendly ways are to treat us when we come in, put us in a room next to a ton of grass for potty breaks with doggy bags and litter boxes, and put us in a room on the first floor We’ve done too many hotels with Olive and Pippin and been put on high floors before our dogs even had time to go potty or go to a hotel that says they’re dog friendly but you’re not. They went to a dark place with grass to do their business. In general, we felt that Olive was treated like a guest apart from us! He was also allowed to stay in the room when we went out to eat or drink – something most hotels don’t allow. Olive is potty trained so we put her in her crate when we left and she is doing great.
The best thing about staying at the Ruby Hotel is its proximity to the bars! Steps from your room is Ruby’s Bar where you can find all kinds of delicious food and a slice or two of cheesecake! Monday through Friday, they offer a delicious happy hour from 4-6 p.m. Start the evening with a Ruby Old Fashioned or one of our specialty drinks before enjoying your evening or pate. Besides drinks, you can also order food, but we weren’t very hungry after eating in Georgetown, so we decided to leave. There was a New York Style Cheesecake and it was delicious!
Speaking of bars, don’t miss the weekend brunch – this. Worth it! Brunch is Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. So we were lucky enough to stay for the weekend. We started with a mimosa carafe and a Ruby Bloody Mary because I was a twelve to thirteen girl – how could that be?! I don’t know why but when it comes to brunch you should have at least 2 drinks every time, haha! For dinner, we had avocado toast with cherry tomato salad, hemp seeds, red onion, arugula, and a fried egg, then buttermilk pancakes with blueberry compote. I highly recommend that if you’re staying at the Ruby Hotel for the weekend, take advantage of their brunch because it’s so delicious!

The Ruby Hotel has a stunning outdoor pool that is truly the center of attention as you walk under the canopy of trees on the property. The pool is open daily from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. There are no lifeguards on duty and the pool is not heated, so be sure to keep that in mind if it’s cold in Texas during your visit. In addition to the pool, there is a fitness center with treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, free weights, mats, and weight bands/balls. The fitness center is open 24 hours a day so accommodate any fitness guru.
Located on Interstate 35, Inner Space Cave is a hidden gem. Did you know that when you drive the 35 from Georgetown to Austin, you drive through a cave? When we were in the cave we could hear the cars above us! A little scary but also good. The good thing about these caves is that they offer 3 different tour options depending on how you want to see the cave. We did the tour, but they killed 2 other tours that were more interesting and the lights were not bright. I would 100% come back to do this tour because I’m an adrenaline junkie and I want to see more great works of underground art.
Space Cave is a great place to bring the whole family and is very affordable. The adventure tour lasts over an hour and is worth every penny. Our guide was very knowledgeable, answered all of our questions, and was generally very interesting! He told interesting stories about the cave and really impressed us. I recommend stopping by while touring the cave.

I arrived right when it opened at 9:00am and there were 5-10 cars waiting to open. To be honest, I was surprised at how many people were there on Friday morning. Anyway, I went in carrying my camera bag with my tripod. If you’re just buying a pumpkin and taking pictures, you don’t have to pay to enter, but you do have to fill out a release form. Actually, always make sure to ask if photos are okay when you’re out and about. They said yes, and directed me to the pumpkin patch. It’s only a 2 minute walk down a dirt road, not bad at all. I zoomed in on the scene and set up my tripod and started taking pictures! How cute is this pumpkin house?! I love the back of this old truck too! Once I took all my photos I wandered around and found the perfect pumpkin! I also took a pumpkin and walked back to the door to pay. It’s only $10 for a large pumpkin and a child. Pumpkins $0.79/lb and they accept cards!
Farm Eats Fruit Farm is more than just a farm and has a lot to offer all year round! They also have a sunflower festival in the summer, I will definitely attend.
One of my favorite things about Texas is Texas wine – it’s no secret if you read my guide to Fredericksburg. As we live in Texas we are Vineyards Wine Members which means we have access to the member’s lounge and lounge which is great! If you’re not a member, don’t worry because you can grab a glass of wine while you walk downtown Georgetown or sit at a restaurant.
Blue Corn Harvest is a great place for great Southwest food! Mom and I chose to eat there because of the fresh produce they support on local farms (and the way you can taste it). We started with fresh guacamole and chips garnished with homemade salsa! The mango was actually my favorite part of the salsa and it added a nice flavor. For our entrees, we had veggie enchiladas and a bowl of tortilla soup, which was my favorite! We sat on the back porch and it was very spacious and felt very private, which was nice.
