I’ve been walking around Los Angeles a lot lately with my boyfriend and his mini goldendoodle. From Rancho Palos Verdes to Santa Monica, we have visited many areas. This list is my favorite. The dog loved them as much as we did and we can personally recommend them to everyone.

As with all Southern California road trips, be sure to bring plenty of water for you and your dog, as well as a blanket or towel for the car in case Fido gets dusty or muddy (apparently, but I’ve seen it), and a bag to clean up after leaving a mess along the way.

Located southeast of Del Cerro Park, Portugal Bend Preserve is a 399-acre reserve on the island of Palos Verdes. Established in 2005, it is the largest private preserve in the Palos Verdes National Wildlife Refuge at 1,400 acres. It is famous for its steep hills, dramatic canyons and rock formations.
The extensive trail network on the Portuguese Bend Preserve is open to hikers, cyclists, horseback riders and dog walkers. It’s a great place to get out and enjoy the Southern California scenery.

My boyfriend, his dog and I like to do a loop around Burma Road. This is the main road leading from the entrance to Crenshaw Blvd. The view of the beach and Catalina Island is spectacular from here.
The walk takes about 2 hours. It’s a great way to get outside and enjoy some of the area’s best attractions at the same time. Although the hills are moderately difficult, they are not too steep for our taste. All in all, we really like it.

Next on our list of the best dog hikes in Los Angeles is San Vicente Mountain Park. The included trail covers everything from the famous Mulholland Drive to the former Nike Missile site. Located in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, this is a great place to spend time outdoors.
San Vicente Mountain Park is located in the eastern Santa Monica Mountains, west of the 405 Freeway and on the Encino Reservoir. This 10.2 hectare site is full of history and the surrounding area is interesting to visit.
This walking route starts on Mulholland Drive and lasts approximately 3.5 km. There is a wide dirt road with soft potholes leading from the paved part of the road to the former military reserve. Getting here is quite easy, with great views and some elevation gain.
The walk takes about an hour. If you and your dog are in good shape, you can do this quickly. If you want to spend some time exploring the rocket site (which is worth it), you might want to consider that as well.

My boyfriend, his dog and I went here to Matt Hollywood. After parking at the Merry Go Round parking lot, we followed the Fern Canyon Trail to the Upper Beacon Trail, then turned right and continued up Vista Del Valle Drive with spectacular views. From there we took the Hogback Trail to Dante’s.
In total, the trip took about 2.5 hours. We left at 9:30 on a hot morning and wished we had gone earlier. We only regretted this, because the trail is amazing and the views are worth the climb.

Located on the eastern edge of Topanga State Park, the 5.64-mile Old Mountain Fire Trail offers great opportunities to enjoy the canyon views with your dog. At the top, it connects Moholland Drive and San Vicente Mountain Park.
Like many others on my list, this song gets a lot of sun. If it’s hot outside, it’s better to come earlier or later.
My boyfriend, his dog and I went to Mandeville, Kenya. After parking on Westridge Road, we followed the fire road up the hill. There were lots of paths and stairs and we had a great time exploring the area and finding our way.
