All of Jean-Charles Boisset’s properties in California are dog-friendly, but Frenchie Winery is a dog-themed tasting room in a tasting room named after the puppy Boisset gave to his wife Gina Gallo. Frenchie’s is located in the middle of Raymond’s 5-acre nature theater. Pet-friendly furniture and outdoor shed create a relaxing atmosphere. “A winery should be a place where you can relax and where people can find their rhythm,” says Boisset. “We believe dogs are part of that.
Guests are encouraged to bring their dogs to all Kathryn and Craig Hall tasting rooms (including Chimney and Sister Walt wineries). When visiting the hall, special dog biscuits and drinking bowls can be taken as a souvenir. Their annual Harvest Hounds event raised tens of thousands of dollars for Napa Humane.
Dogs have long been part of the Honig story. In 2005, Michael Honig helped train golden retrievers as “sniffing dogs” to detect pheromones from a destructive female insect that feeds on vineyards. In 2017, Honey the Yellow Lab was added to the family as a diabetic to help manage daughter Sophie’s type 1 diabetes. Today, golden retriever puppy Ella is on duty as a wine dog to greet guests. And winery VP Michael Scholz’s Boxer, Angus, or simply “Gus” for short, is often seen in the vineyards. The winery hosts dog book signings and offers canine visitors a “great vintage” paired with a variety of flavors.
Your pup won’t be your only four-legged friend at Tamber Bay Vineyards at Sundance Ranch. With your dog on a leash you can visit the stables and meadows and meet some of the horses. Visiting dogs can also roam freely in the park at the front of the property. The staff provides plenty of water (dogs need to stay hydrated even on wine tasting days) and offers delicious cookies that not only pair with the wine, but are also safe to share with your furry companion.
