Epic Transit Friendly Hikes In Metro Vancouver

Before recommending some of the best dog walks in Vancouver, consider some routes and basic preparations before you and your dog hit the trails.
About 10 minutes outside of Vancouver is Pacific Spirit Regional Park for an easy annual hike. This park has a series of trails spanning over 750 acres of forest, many of which are dog-friendly. Look for signs indicating which trails are dog-friendly, as well as “Dog Code of Conduct” signs. The trails are wide, mostly flat and covered in many sections, making it a great hike even on hot summer days.
Dog Friendly Hikes In & Around Vancouver
All dog droppings must be disposed of properly to avoid attracting wildlife. Camosun Bog is part of an ecologically sensitive area, so all visitors must stay on board and all dogs must be on leads. Many of the Pacific Spirit Trails allow horseback riding, so leash dogs so they don’t get trampled. Enjoy the forest trails with your lucky companion and enjoy the sights and aromas.
Just north of Port Moody is a wonderful 8km trail that runs alongside Buntzen Lake. This is one of the most popular dog walks in the region, with clear signage showing off-leash areas, two designated off-leash areas and a dog beach area.
Dogs are not allowed on the main beach. Park rules are enforced by park staff and the RCMP and there is a $115 fine for not following leash rules. Poop bags are available on some sections of the trail to remove dog poop. All dogs must be on a leash as the trail passes the beautiful lake through second generation cedar and Douglas fir trees.
Immerse yourself in the rainforest with your trusty companion at Capilano Canyon. If you take the track that goes around and around the tube bridge it takes about an hour and is a wonderful walk. Short walks can be especially good for more difficult dogs who can’t work longer.

A very popular hiking destination for dogs with plenty of challenge level options is Lynn Headquarters Regional Park. Consider your fitness level and your dog’s level before choosing your climb. Remember, if your dog can’t make it all the way, you’ll have to carry him the rest of the way. Most of the trails below are fenced, but if you enter one of the fenced areas, all dogs must be under control, try to stay no more than 10 yards from you, come immediately when barked, and behave well when approached.
