Some ridiculously nice people are letting us sleep at their house for a week and according to the vet: rest, cold, no route – the opposite of what a mom would normally rest!
Florida, by the way, is my speed: lots of room to run, no rules, no squirrels to annoy me, no postal workers to guard the house—just me and the sand (and, well, a few thousand birds to scare).
It was the middle of November and some days could be cold. It was very cold and windy in the morning, so we did my favorite thing at home: sleeping.

Paddle boards (I only lend them to mom and dad) come down with us and spend the afternoon paddling those calm waters. I think the water there might be calmer than my lake area in Tennessee.

It doesn’t mean anything in the grand scheme of things, but it’s just cute and will make you smile. Visitors to Santo Agostinho who bring their pets always receive such recognition.
Maybe you want to take your pet with you, but don’t want to worry about them on vacation. If so, a hotel/pet day care service is the option for you. St. Augustine has several dog sitting providers that can really keep your pooch entertained.

The most obvious choice for dog-friendly activities in St. Augustine is a trip to the beach! Dogs are allowed at all St. Augustine beaches except Anastasia State Park. Dogs must be on a leash, so if your dogs are like mine, you may want to wear shoes. They see a seagull and immediately chase after it – I think they hear “my, my, my…” just like when they found Nemo.
Just as you don’t want people to leave trash on the beach, clean up after your pet. Most beachgoers have bags, but sometimes they run out, so you can bring your own.
If you’re taking your dog to the beach for an extended period of time, I recommend that your friend bring an extra umbrella or dog tent. Even swimming in the ocean and running the rapids can be too much sun for dogs and can cause them to overheat. Of course, this is obvious to the pet owner, but be sure to bring them plenty of fresh water. Word to the wise: bring more. Many times one of my dogs knocked over his water bowl and I had to run to the gas station to get another bottle of water.

If you have a small dog, you can wash off some of the sand in the outdoor shower. Most public parking lots with access to the beach have these showers.
