Cafe Hope, located in the city’s Hope Park, has been named best restaurant or cafe for the third time in two years and is likely to take the top spot this time around.
The cafe is a hangout for many local dog owners and holidaymakers, as well as their four-legged friends.
There’s a dedicated dog section on the menu, a “dog station” for thirsty pups to enjoy a drink, and during the heat earlier this year, they added a dog pool to the back of the cafe to keep pets cool.
“We absolutely love our canine guests at Cafe Hope,” said manager Vicky Mallaghan. “Interacting with some of our furry customers is a real perk of the job.

The tradition of serving beer here dates back to the late 16th century, when the old inn was an informal alehouse with a farmer in the kitchen serving labourers, travelers and, reportedly, Coleridge. Today is not so different. The interior is well-preserved and ‘historic’, the beer is locally brewed, and there’s always a warm welcome for tired feet and paws.
