Clark lends Eddie some money to keep his crew afloat. From there, his finances are destroyed. There is no help for Ellen. While I really like Beverly D’Angelo (as they say, she’s very easy on the eyes), she’s mostly unpleasant. I’m pretty sure her job in the movie is to annoy Clark, sabotage his plans, and then cut him off when he experiences personal setbacks.
Since Beverly is a serious foodie, it’s hard to stay mad at her. She eventually succumbs to her husband’s insanity, but not until she feels less desirable because of Clark’s crush on a “mystery girl” (Christie Brinkley) in a hot red Ferrari who speeds by she on the freeway. In today’s media and pop culture, fathers are often disliked, perceived as annoying, seen as idiots with incredibly beautiful, open and loving wives.
You have to wonder how these couples found themselves in a dating group and then why they decided to get married and have children. While Chase makes it easy to work with Clark Griswold, he also provides moments of reality and insight into his strange world. She begins to cry at the thought of depriving her children of growing up. He wants to be wanted, loved, and trusted, and he can barely maintain his sanity by traveling to Wally World.
