Since I love my neck, the Oregon Coast is also dog friendly, which is very important. So, I believe this is the most comprehensive guide for you and your dog to visit.
While most places are dog friendly and there are plenty of places to stretch your six legs, there were a few places I didn’t mention in the article. Whether you’re traveling with your fur baby, let me guide you along the PNW coast from Astoria to the Crescent City to avoid the crowds, do it on a budget, and make memories that last a lifetime.

Tourist tip: Most attractions have paid parking. You can buy an Oregon Pacific Coast or Oregon State Park pass because it’s cheaper than paying for each park.
If you’re coming from Portland, you’ll want to start at the north end of Astoria Beach and swim down the beach from there. Astoria is a beautiful beach town with lots of hills to walk and things to do. and see
One place you may want to add to your Astoria itinerary is the Astoria Column. Located on the highest hill in the city, you can climb the many steps to get a fantastic view of the area. You can see the Pacific River, the Columbia River, and the Young River, as well as the Astoria-Megler Bridge.
Now you can’t bring your dog to the pole because there is almost no room for people to squeeze inside the pole. But you can go up the hill, have lunch at one of the picnic tables and enjoy the view from the top of the hill with your fur baby.

For history buffs, they will tell the fascinating history of the area. And another plus, if you have a well-behaved dog with you, you can bring your dog on this quick trip!
Another good stop is Lewis and Clark National Historical Park. Lots of interesting history, a castle to explore and beautiful riverside walks.

Get on board and let your imagination tell the story of your shipwreck! In the summer, if you’re lucky enough to have the right conditions (warm temperatures, no moon, no fog, etc.), it’s a great place to find bioluminescent algae that light up the waves!
I was able to go one night last summer (2021) and while it was foggy I couldn’t see the waves, there was also seaweed on the sand and watching the sand come alive with every step my dog took was truly magical. Got it!

One thing to keep in mind if you’re making the trip: Although the house shown at the beginning of the film is in Astoria, it’s a private home, and the owners have asked fans not to think of it as a tourist attraction. .

Dog Friendly Beaches On The Oregon Coast
As you start your descent from the beach, the first place you’ll want to stop is Ecola State Park. As mentioned earlier, this is one of the interesting things about Goonies, with several recognizable points (like the place where they hold a coin to compare to a rock).
The park’s Indian Beach is also one of the locations in the movie ‘Twilight’, but it’s also a great place for surfers! The surrounding area has many excellent hiking trails through the lush rainforest. In the spring, it’s a great place to see whale mothers and calves migrating north from hibernation.
Just south of Ecola State Park (and visible from the park) is Cannon Beach! Such rocks and beautiful mountain/grassy hills are perfect for sunset. There are also swimming pools.

Tourist Tip: Remember that many of the things to do and see on the beach are subject to tides, so check the tide charts before starting your trip.

On the coast, you’ll want to do this at Hug Point State Recreation Beach. There is a waterfall on the beach as well as shallow coastal caves that my inner child wanted to explore.
Another stop you MUST include on your coastal itinerary is the Tillamook Cheese Factory. It’s a free self-guided tour where they’ll guide you through every step of making delicious cheese!
At the end of the tour there is a place to sample their delicious cheeses, but beware! They will catch you there!
I definitely recommend picking up bags of cheese to eat fresh or take home and make later! This is a great place to stop for lunch as they have a counter where you can order cheese trays and even ice cream!

Driving from Tillamook, it’s a short drive to our next destination, the Neskowin Ghost Forest. You want to go down to see the forest that the ocean says. It can definitely be a little scary, especially when it’s foggy, but it’s worth seeing the remains of the ancient trees and how the old notes endure despite the petrographic/carving forces of the ocean waves.
Another great stop is to visit the Devil’s Punchbowl. It is a large, ruined sea cave that is accessible at high tide. It’s just gorgeous from top to bottom, so if you’re short on time on your trip (like me!), it’s a good quick stop. But I wish I had the chance to go down and see her in the dress.
