Best Dog Friendly Beaches Kent

Best Dog Friendly Beaches Kent – Living in London, we’re lucky enough to be able to easily escape the capital during the day and hit the beach, with many dog-friendly beaches within an hour or two. Last summer we had a great time exploring West Sussex’s most beautiful and friendly beaches, but today on the blog we’re going to share three stunning sandy beaches in North East Kent between Margate and Broadstairs that you can visit with your dog. . – around, so without worrying about the ban on beaches for dogs from May to September.

The main thing is that the beaches we are going to talk about are not far from each other, so you can visit the beaches between them in one day if you travel by car. The coastal towns of Margate and Broadstairs are nearby, both ideal for exploring with dogs, more on this in a moment.

All the beaches we visited were sandy, so it was best to enjoy them at high tide. Check tide times at Tideschart.com to make the most of your visit.

Palm Bay Beach will be the closest dog friendly beach to Margate if you want to combine a visit to both. When we arrived in Palm Bay we didn’t immediately know how to get down from the boardwalk to the beach, but once you find your way through the mountains, the beach is yours. There is plenty of sand on the beach to sing or, in the case of the happy people we saw, zoom up and down.

There is free street parking and there is a jet ski park at the end of the beach which is also dog friendly.

About a ten minute drive along the coast between Margate and Broadstairs you will find Kinggate Bay, a famous chalk cliff, sea cave and home to the much painted Kinggate Bay Sea Arch. When we visited, the tide was still very high so we couldn’t go past the bow, but it was still a beautiful beach to visit.

Unfortunately, there is no parking at Kinggate Bay and the entrance to the beach is brighter and lacks such an appearance. The only parking option is at the Captain Digby Pub (only dogs allowed in the pub). Apparently it will cost you £20 if you don’t eat straight away.

You can walk to the famous surfing beach of Joss Bay which has ample parking and then walk to Kinggate Bay in about 30 minutes. 15 minutes Please remember that dogs are allowed on Joss Bay Beach before 10am and after 6pm from 1 May to 30 September.

Another option for a dog-friendly stop on the way is the Botany Bay Hotel, a 10-minute walk from Kingsgate Beach. Dogs are welcome in the pub and there are dog friendly hotel rooms if you plan to stay overnight.

Finally, Dumpton Gap is the closest beach to Broadstairs on our list. You can actually walk to Broadstairs from Dumpton Gap in 15 minutes if you want. Dumpton Gap was probably our favorite surprise of the night. Be sure to visit when the tide is out, and you can walk along the beach with nothing but sand, sea and high mountain walls to accompany you, which is a magnificent sight.

Parking is very easy with plenty of street parking at the beach entrance. Although it wasn’t open when we visited, Sam’s Café, located at the entrance to the beach and overlooking the sand, has a good reputation for welcoming people and kids.

Dog Friendly Beaches Less Than Three Hours’ Drive From Watford

As we visited recently there is not much open in Margate and Broadstairs due to lockdown so a dog friendly city guide will need to be a priority. However, here are two dog essentials that just have to be mentioned if you’re in the area…

Margate Old Town is home to one of our favorite fashion brands, Hiro + Wolf and its sister brand, Artisans & Adventures. Known for their colorful colors, strong personalities and hands-off guides, a visit to Margate with your furry friend wouldn’t be complete without a Hiro + Wolf tour. Namesakes Hiro and Wolfie will greet you warmly if you do, and in Wolfie’s case, you’ll find a friend for life if you bring him a treat.

It won’t be the same a visit to the beach without an ice cream, it will be from now on. Luckily, both human and doll varieties are available at Morelli’s Gelato on Broadstairs Beach, the latter being delicious considering how quickly it can be consumed. Morelli’s Gelato is usually also dog-friendly, but during the COVID-19 restrictions, you can get your own Morelli’s fix (along with other dogs and people) on the go.

With dog beaches, dog treats and ice cream all crossed off the list, we ended the day glad we had decided to discover this little corner of the Kent coast. As a South Londoner, even if these dog-friendly Kent beaches aren’t as close to us as those in West Sussex, they’re definitely worth a visit.
